Three months on and some of us still can't get enough of Snapmatic, GTA V 's in-game photo-sharing iFruit app. Whether you're capturing a beautiful sunset or taking a group photo of your crew's rides, there's no doubt Snapmatic has been a most welcome addition to GTA.

Welcome to the Los Santos Photography Club. Each week we'll be picking awesome photos from a set theme, submitted by our community over on GTAForums, and this week we begin with The Professionals.

Dedicated to shooting only the most professional photos, Professional photographers + Snapmatic offers a place to post your take on different kind of art. There is a strict no-selfie and no-goofyness policy, adhered to by all members who join in.

  • Flying under bridges achievements will return from GTAIV. There are exactly 50 bridges to fly under.
  • The city features cracked roads, graffiti, shopfronts and billboards. Every shopfront in the game is unique.
  • Night time is more realistic and is a big improvement from IVs "darkness". At a certain part of Blaine County the only real source of light were Trevor's vehicle headlamps.
  • Destructible environments have been upped in this game which means that you can use them to your advantage in missions; you can use: gas cylinders, motor cars, fuel tanks and more.
  • Animals yelp when hit by a vehicle.
  • Neon signs actually have a buzzing noise.
  • Helicopter wreckage can be found from high above in the sky.
  • Although map is open from the start, it still has a huge element of discovery.
  • Grove Street will be making a return.
  • GTAV feels like a "best of R* experience" because of the elements from all of R*'s greatest games.
  • Normal walking is quite slow.
  • The weather system is different, featuring virtual sunrays.
  • Water physics are fantastic, featuring realistic waves that foam back and forth.
  • The framerate is consistent and there seems to be no stuttering when switching between characters to complete a mission.


  • Franklin usually hangs out in the ghetto, Trevor in the wastelands, and Michael in the business districts.
  • Your character's health regenrates to 50% only.
  • Sometimes you will be prompted to use certain characters - at other times you can choose yourself.
  • A coloured flash on screen will signal a switch to a particular character. Michael is blue, Franklin is green, and Trevor is orange.
  • Simeon's dealership has quite a lot of high-end vehicles which Franklin can use immediately.
  • One of a kind encounters may occur such as Lamar acting agressively towards a hobo.
  • Chop belongs to Lamar, not Franklin.
  • Chop can distract enemies, giving an advantage against them.
  • Each protagonist has a very distinctive walk and feel to them.
  • Main characters and NPC have thousands of custom animations.


  • The main weapon wheel is broken down into a series of subcategories; after scrolling with the stick to the weapon type you want, left and right on the D-pad will cycle between additional individual weapons.
  • The wheel will store all of the weapons you collect and you will never lose them, even if they run out of ammo or you get busted. It's estimated that players can hold about 14 weapons.
  • You can throw weapons to the other protagonists.
  • Sniper Rifles can be upgraded with a Thermo Scope which can be activated on the run.
  • Miniguns destroy vehicle almost instantly.
  • The ability to fire whilst prone and rolling around returns from Max Payne 3 at a mission with Trevor.
  • There are Ammu-Nation stores which are open at night.
  • Players can have a shooting scope of 360 degrees so that they can strategically decide what they need to do.
  • You can adjust the power, rate of fire and gauge levels of the weapons.
  • AI constantly changes their position to get a better shot at you.


  • There are four different in-vehicle views in addition to cinematic mode. However the cockpit view will not be included.
  • Trains are drivable.
  • if a saved vehicle is abandoned or destroyed, it can be recovered (for a fee) at the local impound lot.
  • Each vehicle type has a unique type of handling, for example the pick-up truck doesn't stick to the road as well as a supercar.
  • You can turn a car's engine on and off.
  • Pedestrians react differently to carjackings now, such as speeding off when aimed or shot at with a weapon.
  • Drivers flip you off after collisions.
  • Car crashes usually leave trails of fuel, which can in turn be used to blow them up.
  • Chopper controls are extremely alike to GTAIV, and landing them is more straightforward.
  • Engine realism such as engine stuttering and black smoke shooting out was noted.
  • Car explosions and aftermath much more realistic than IV's.
  • Hearses are NOT good for escaping cops.
  • For racing, Rockstar has relied on Midnight Club: Los Angeles's gameplay mechanics for the driving in V.


  • There are various ways to tackle a one mission objective.
  • When missions end, the aftermath "spills over" into freeroam - as noted when a car is blown up at the end of a mission, fire engines will rush to the still destroyed car, whereas in IV the world would simply "reset".
  • There will be split second decision makings which adds a Hollywood-esque feels to the gameplay.
  • "Derailed" involves Trevor chasing a train of cargo on a dirtbike (All you had to do was follow the damn train Trevor).
  • At one point in "Nervous Ron" a light is shot out to prevent a dead body being discovered.
  • "Vinewood Babylon" involves using a weapon similar to what Bruce Willis uses to blast off Jack Blacks arm in "The Jackal".
  • One of the missions shown involved breaking the target out of the FIB building.
  • If you go up to a mission marker, you go straight into a cutscene and straight out smoothly, similar to Max Payne 3.
  • There are mission checkpoints.
  • Every single mission is replayable like The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Police Encounters:

  • Unlike GTAIV's wanted system, every officer and police car has its own search circle.
  • Blowing up a cop car will get you a wanted level of 1 star.
  • You receive a 2 star wanted level when flying over the prison.
  • Police will chase after you if you decide to go into water.

New Details on Grand Theft Auto V Special and Collector's Editions

Rockstar Games has revealed new details about the Grand Theft Auto V Special and Collector's editions. The editions provide the following enhancements and accessories:

Additional Weapons - the .50 Caliber Pistol and the Bullpup Shotgun are available at Ammu-Nation, complete with unique customization options, skins and attachments.

Bonus Outfits, Tattoos and More - The main characters receive a 20% discount on clothes and tattoos, as well as one new outfit each, one article of clothing (shirt, hoodie and jacket) each, a special haircut, facial hair look and tattoo.

MTF New bonus outfits for each character

Custom Characters for GTA Online (Collector's Edition Only) - Defining your parent's heritage and then customizing your character's daily activites will determine the appearance and skill-set of your online character. In the Collector's Edition, Niko Bellic (from GTA IV), Claude and Misty (from GTA III) are available to use as parent options within the character creation system.

Special Ablity Boost - In GTA V, The main characters each have a special ability which may be activated when the Special Ability bar fills up. In the Special and Collector's editions, the bar fills up 25% faster.

Stunt Plane Trials - Five new stunt plane challenges, which involve navigating through checkpoints.

Unique Vehicles and Garage Property (Collector's Edition only) - An exclusive garage to store custom vehicles, that includes the CarbonRS sports bike and the Hotknife - an open frame 1930s style hotrod. In GTA Online your garage and the high-end Khamelion electric car, which is specific to GTA Online, are both purchased through in-game websites accessed through your Online character's cell phone.

Asked and Answered: GTAV

After several weeks of silence, Rockstar have delighted GTA fans once again by releasing a special GTA V Edition of Asked & Answered. This special addition of Ask & Answered answers many of the popular questions GTA fans have been asking such as how many disks the game will use, whether or not there will be a PC version, plus much more.

Of particular interest, when asked if GTA fans will see gameplay footage and when GTA fans will get the first details about multiplayer, Rockstar indicated that fans could expect to see them soon. Sounds like we could have some very exciting weeks ahead!

New GTAV Promo in RDR Game of the Year Edition

It emerged earlier this morning that the Red Dead Redemption Game of the Year edition is being shipped with a GTA V promo card alongside the manual.

It features a new screenshot of three characters about to break into the Vangilico jewellery store, much like the scene from the very first trailer, as well as a short blurb about the game.

GTA 5 o'clock: Virtual Tour of Los Santos

Feast your eyes on CVG's latest GTA 5 o'clock show installment, with this week featuring the first version of their own community map project.

Tracing back through all the screenshots and trailers released, the team have worked together with the community to pin together locations to the blueprint map preview released on the Special/Collectors edition poster.

Most notably, they've heavily sourced a lot of work from our very own Mapping Los Santos project on GTAForums.
In particular, they appear to have relied on member xrCore to create the surrounding Blaine County. Thanks to the guys at CVG for acknowledging their hard work.

And remember, we're almost certainly not looking at a final version of the map or even the correct shape, but it's still interesting all the same!

Community Spotlight: Los Santos Size

It's been a couple of days since Rockstar announced the different editions of GTA V that will be available and just what we'll get with them. Already pre-ordered yours? Take a moment to vote in our poll on GTAForums.

The exclusive items that come with each edition have been met with excitement and anticipation, but there was also one carefully placed and completely unexpected detail that has been causing quite the stir: the map. Coming exclusively with the special and collector's editons, the blueprint style poster of the map will feature points of interest we can visit in-game as well as clues to get quick 'n easy cash. Although by no means have we seen the full map, many eyebrows have been raised about size of the city shown.

From the beginning GTA V has been described to have a map as big as GTA IV, GTA San Andreas and Red Dead Redemption "combined". Does this mean only only land mass or the entire visable area? Does it include interiors or the underwater environment? There have been statements alluding to the answers of these questions, but not explicit enough to confirm. It's still relatively unclear about how large the land mass (that being areas we can walk, drive and explore) will be in comparison to other GTA games.

There's no one more analytical than a GTA fan, so since receiving this snippet of the map, the community has been busy at work attempting to calculate and measure just what we're looking at. The Los Santos Size topic on GTAForums has been growing by the day with countless comparisons to GTA IV's Liberty City.

One example is that of forum member deffpony, who has managed to compare scales out of screenshots, character heights and building models.

To get some insight into how he went about his measurements, deffpony told us:

"In order to determine an estimated comparison of Los Santos to Liberty City, I first obtained a 3D model of Algonquin. Knowing that the Rotterdam Tower is a 1:1 model of the Empire State Building it is safe to assume that the Los Santos Bank Tower is also a 1:1 model of its real life counterpart. Using a model of the LS tower alongside the proportioned LC model, I sized the Los Santos blueprint so that the tower sits in its appropriate location 3 dimensionally, thus creating a scaled comparison of Los Santos to Liberty City.
With the help of some screenshots I cross referenced character model heights between IV and V within the scaled comparison. The results were almost identical, adding further credibility to this scale.
The largest source of error would be if the Bank Tower, unlike the buildings in Liberty City, was not a 1:1 model. If this is the case the entire scale is a very rough estimate at best."

A big shout out to everyone else contributing to the cause; this is only one comparison of many that have been created, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more.

Now, it's important to note that everything regarding the map is complete speculation and based on fan interpretations and information-sharing. However, it would be unfair not to acknowledge to the sheer dedication that the community has put into the group effort of deciphering the size. If you feel a little disappointed with what you've been presented with, then don't worry, as the screenshots, trailers and press previews have shown us that GTA V is the most ambitious GTA game we're yet to even fully see. Call it bias, but we're feeling pretty positive here at GTANet that no matter what it seems like at the moment, the game is going to look and feel very big.

Special and Collector's Edition announced!

Rockstar have just updated the official GTA V website with specifics about the Special and Collector's Edition, along with a special Pre-Order bonus!


Pre-ordering either of the editions, including the standard one, will grant you access to the fabled Blimp, which has been the subject of many a discussion, especially concerning whether or not it was actually driveable.


The cheaper of the two extra content laden editions contains the following:

  • Collectible steelbook with exclusive artwork
  • Blueprint map
  • Stunt Plane Trials
  • Special Ability Boost
  • Bonus outfits, tattoos and more

Along with all this, the aforementioned Blueprint Map is depicted both in rolled-up form and as a partial cut out, leaving a good portion of the map visible. This prompted forum member gorgeprofondegta4 to reconstruct the map from the few snippets shown:

This really gives us a good look at a vast portion of the city, and parts of Blaine County. He also scaled it to the listed proportions of the map, showing that it's quite a bit larger than the visible areas, leaving lots of space for a few smaller towns, and much more countryside. Hotknife The Hotknife returns!

New Vehicles and Weapons!

In addition to the Atomic Blimp, the return of the Stunt Plane was also confirmed, this time in the shape of an Extra EA-200, which is quite a popular model. Ordering the full Collector's Edition will also grant you a Hotknife, which looks bloody gorgeous, and the CarbonRS sports bike seen earlier in a screenshot on May 7th. Online, players will get access to a high-end electric car called the Khamelion.

Owning the Collector's Edition will further hook you up with three free exclusive weapons: The Bullpup Shotgun, Pistol .50 and a hammer. What else could you ever need?

Community Spotlight: Creative Edition

It's been a long few months since Rockstar announced the official release date of GTA V, and while some are still licking their wounds after hearing it's coming later than expected, the rest of the Community is still busy discussing and speculating about the game to come.

The tumbleweeds are certainly rolling, as there's been no new assets to play with since the beginning of January and not a single tweet or Newswire post since the release date announcement; it appears Rockstar are on lockdown. With not much to keep us entertained, we thought it would be nice to post something different and showcase some great fan creations that have been posted around the GTAForums Community recently. There have been countless manipulations of Michael, Trevor and Franklin, as well as some really cool original art. Check out the slideshow below featuring some highlights:

Hot Topics

We can appreciate it probably appears the GTA Network has gone into hiding as well at the moment, with the inevitable lull after the 'delay' was announced; but we can assure you we're still here and busy behind the scenes. We hope to bring you more Community related news over the next few weeks to fill the gaps, and hopefully that will lead nicely into something new from Rockstar. Afterall, there's only just over 5 months until the game will launch; what would you like to hear most about? There are so many possibilities that could fill our calendar until September 17th!

Time will fly by, and before we know it we'll be queuing at the game store or sitting under the letterbox waiting for its arrival. For the time being, take a look at these topics that are under the spotlight in the Community right now:

The 'Two Screens A Day' project by deffpony has been very popular over the past month. Two screenshots are posted daily, in order of their release, with the Community offering their analysis, thoughts and comments on them. Big thumbs up to deffpony and contributing members for keeping it going and providing an interesting way to look back and appreciate all the assets released from the GTA V marketing campaign so far.

'For the Love of Money', a topic that started as a well-thought out and in-depth analysis of all things money in GTA V, has been turned into a large scale Community project after overwhelming feedback and participation from our members. Creator meta187 gathered a team of other talented members and has also developed a 3-part video series, in addition to the evergrowing topic, to present the ideas after receiving recognition from the one and only Rockstar (yes, I said Rockstar). Head on over to GTAForums to read, watch and take part, and look out for more videos from meta and his crew in the coming weeks.
